THIS IS THE SUCCESSION OF HEIRS TO THE TITLE KING OF IRELAND AS IT WAS CREATED FOR HIGH KING OF IRELAND RUAIDRÍ UA CONCHOBAIR.

Please keep in mind that besides Ruaidrí Ua Conchobair, none of these people actually held the title King of Ireland. This is just a list of heirs to the title.

Ruaidrí I

Ruaidrí Ua Conchobair, the last High King of Ireland and first King of Ireland. Son of High King Tairrdelbach Ua Conchobair. He was also King of Connacht.

Cathal Carrach

Cathal carrach Ua Conchobair was the King of Connacht. He was the son of Conchobar Máenmaige Ua Conchobair, King of Connacht (c.1132-1189), son of King Ruaidrí I of Ireland.

Máelshechlainn

Máelshechlainn Ua Conchobair was the Tánaiste (heir) to the Connacian and Irish thrones. He was the only son of Cathal carrach.

Amhlaíb

Amhlaíb Ua Conchobair was the only known son of Máelshechlainn.

Áed Bán Ua Conchobair, or King Áed I of Ireland, was the only known son of Amhlaíb.

Ruaidrí Bréifnech Ua Conchobair, or King Ruaidrí II of Ireland, was the eldest of two sons of Áed Bán. He died childless in 1277.

Pádhrac Ó Conchobair (1309-1355), or King Pádhrac of Ireland, was the only known son of Conchobar.

Donnchad bán Ó Conchobair (1346-?), or King Donnchad of Ireland, was the only known son of Pádhrac.

Domnall

Domnall Ó Conchobair (1390-?), or King Domnall of Ireland, was the eldest of three sons of Donnchad bán and his wife, Gwenllian verch Rhys. Gwenllian's male-line ancestors were the Kings of Dublin, and Gwenllian was the last living member of that dynasty. Therefore, the descendants of Donnchad and Gwenllian are also the rightful Kings of Dublin.

Aodh Ó Conchobhair (1521-1578), or King Aodh III of Ireland, was the only son and youngest child of Feidhlimidh. He had an elder sister, Lasairfhíona.

Seaghán Ó Conchobhair (1552-1600), or King Seaghán III of Ireland, was the only son and middle of three children of Aodh III. He had an elder sister, Siobhán, and a younger sister, Úna.

Uilliam I

Uilliam Ó Conchobhair (1552-1600), or King Uilliam I of Ireland, was the only child of Seaghán III. He had a son, Féidhlim, who predeceased him as a child (1616-1621). Beyond that, he had only daughters: Áine (1599-1632), Máire who was a nun (1607-1637), Siobhán (1611-1613), and Íosabéal (1614-1636).

Alasdair Beag

Alasdair Beag Ó Conchobhair (1602-1681), or King Alasdair of Ireland, was the only son and second child of Alasdair óg Ó Conchobhair and his wife, Alice Nugent. Alice was the daughter of Princess Úna, daughter of King Aodh III of Ireland. Thus, Alasdair Beag and Uilliam I were 1st cousins 1x removed. In the male-line, they both descended from King Ruaidrí I.

Shane O'Connor (1631-1699), or King Seaghán IV of Ireland, was the eldest of three sons of Alasdair Beag.

Kenneth O'Connor (1664-1744), or King Cináed of Ireland, was the only son of Seaghán IV.

Roderic O'Connor (1685-?), or King Ruaidhrí III of Ireland, was the only son and youngest of two children of Cináed. His only child was a daughter, Abigaile (Áibigéil), born in 1712.

Ruaidhrí O'Connor (1701-1784), or King Ruaidhrí IV of Ireland, was the only child of Brian O'Connor and his wife Princess Máire, daughter of King Cináed. Brian was a descendant of King Ruaidrí I in the male-line, and his father Cailean's mother was Princess Áine, daughter of King Uilliam I.

Ruaidhrí VI

Richard O'Connor (1850-1894), or King Ruaidhrí VI of Ireland, was the eldest of two sons of Prince Séamus (1820-1889), the only son of Cathal II.

Ruaidhrí VII

Richard O'Connor (1884-1904), or King Ruaidhrí VII of Ireland, was the only son and youngest of two children of Prince Dubhglas (1859-1904), the younger son of Prince Séamus.

With the death of Ruaidhrí VII, the male-line of Ruaidrí I is extinct and the kingships of Ireland and Dublin pass to the sons of Íosác based on their descent from Uilliam I and Ruaidhrí III.

Ruaidhrí VII's elder sibling was a sister, Ella Augusta O'Connor, who died childless, allegedly on a voyage to America, but more likely after arriving.

Seán VI

Seán Aodh Mac Bréifneach (1861-1910) was the eldest son and third child of Íosác Mac Bréifneach, who predeceased his father Beircheart, the Gaelic Lord of Tuam, in 1875.

​

Seán VI is the founder of the Limerick branch of the House of Mac Bréifneach, named for the head of the branch's position as Duke of Limerick.

Seosamh I

Seosamh Art Mac Bréifneach (1862-1944) was the eldest brother of Seán VI, who married morganatically.

Próinséas

Próinséas de Brún Mac Bréifneach (1887-1956) was the eldest son and child of Seosamh I.

He is the founder of the Waterford branch, who are so named because their patriarch is the Duke of Waterford.

Anraí

Guy Anraí Mac Bréifneach (1889-1964) was the eldest brother of Próinséas, who married morganatically.

​

Anraí only had daughters: Éibhlin (1911-1945) and Madailín (1913-2012).

Seosamh II

Seosamh Óg Biniáimin Mac Bréifneach (1892-1966) was the younger brother of Próinséas, Anraí, and Eógan (1891-1940) who all married morganatically. He was not the youngest son.

Fionnladh Aralt Mac Bréifneach (1919-2014) was the eldest son of Seosamh II, and his only child by his first wife, Dora-Althea de Castillon (1899-1919) daughter of the would-be 8th Marquis de Beynes.

Dáibhid Uilliam Mac Bréifneach (1945-living) was the eldest child and only son of Fionnladh.

 

Dáibhid was not interested in the claim, but served as nominal regent from 2016-2019.

Díolún II

Díolún Críostóir Dómhnall Séamas Stiubhart MacQuarrie Ruairc Mac Bréifneach (2001-living) is the eldest child and son of Prince Críostóir (born 1975), the only son of Dáibhid.

​

Dáibhid is not interested in the claim, but served as nominal regent from 2016-2019. Críostóir is also uninterested in the claim. Both actively oppose monarchical forms of government.
